It’s a funny thing, the knee. One minute it’s helping you hoist yourself up a walking trail in the Dandenongs, and the next, it’s making mysterious noises every time you stand up — a sort of internal protest, like bubble wrap filled with regret.

At PJS Orthopaedics, we see knees (and hips, and shoulders) not just as joints, but as the very hinges of one’s independence. And while this might sound a touch grandiose, ask anyone who’s had theirs replaced and you’ll likely get a firm and enthusiastic nod — from the neck, obviously.

Mobility, after all, isn’t just the ability to move; it’s the ability to go — to explore, to wander, to take odd detours. Which brings me, in a roundabout and completely unaffiliated way, to caravans.

To avoid any conflict of interest or endorsements, we often use examples from outside our area when discussing this. For this example, we went with luxury caravan hire Brisbane. It struck me that if knees give us freedom on foot, then caravans offer freedom on wheels — albeit with considerably more cupholders.

There’s a certain poetry to both: the joint and the journey. One keeps you upright, the other gets you lost (hopefully on purpose). And while our work at PJS Orthopaedics is firmly planted in the medical, we can’t help but admire anything that celebrates movement in all its glorious forms.

Because whether you’re taking your first post-surgery stroll or towing your way through Queensland, life’s a whole lot better when you’re not stuck in one place.
